Rain Barrels
So far, I've painted two rain barrels for us and one for someone else. Less than a quarter inch of rainfall will fill up a 60-gallon barrel!
I bought my barrels from http://www.hayneedle.com/ and have been really pleased with them. This one is made from 100% recycled materials and costs about $110 and shipping is free. You have to buy the short hose you see in the picture if you want to divert overflow water away from your foundation. They are less than $10. If you want to link barrels together so that overflow will go into the next barrel, you'll need to buy that hose too. They recommend raising the barrel off the ground for easier access to the spigot. We just used cement squares and cinder blocks. To install, we cut off the gutter just above the height of then barrel and added a flexible elbow.
