Gossamer Glen
Gossamer Glen may be my new favorite! It was a commission piece for a young lady "believing" as long as she can! Her dream of a fantasy house included a shoe, teddy bears,
fairies, cotton candy, unicorns, and Christmas! Whose wouldn't?
fairies, cotton candy, unicorns, and Christmas! Whose wouldn't?
The details and miniatures are too many to count! From the cotton candy stand, to the string tied box just delivered to the front door. From the picture postcards in the seashell mailboxes to the hand painted koi pond, and real candle, there will be something new to discover for weeks to come!
Even the mouse has a wreath on her door and a welcome mat! The cotton candy cones for sale are displayed in a star anise pod.
The koi fish pond begins with painting the bottom with dark blues and greens. I also painted a koi fish then. I put bits of moss and some tiny pebbles on, then covered the whole thing with epoxy. When that layer dried, I painted two more fish, then added more epoxy. Along with the "snow", I also swirled white paint along the edges to give the appearance of ice..

Moonstone Cottage
My 36th fairy house is another one that is just bit on the dark side, but chock full of interesting miniatures and hidden surprises. There is even an electric tealight in the fire pit! Other features are a real hand-dipped candle, a crooked broom and a chandelier. Can you find my signature brown mouse? It will take many views into this miniature world to find all the tiny details.
This little fairy has a cozy bed close to the warmth of the fire and a seashell filled with firewood is at her fingertips.
Her house is made of a hollowed round gourd and features two windows in the shapes of a star and a crescent moon.
|
The meandering crystal stream flows gently along side the abode.
|
The piece measures about 13 x 10 x 6. The base is an interesting piece of found wood which has been treated and sealed. "Water" flows down over stones and moss on the right side. Acorns, putka pods, stones and moss are tucked in every corner. (Not to mention a few little hidden critters!)
Even the back of the piece is fully done and holds treasures of its own!
A welcoming bench is perched above the stream and offers a splendid view of the mysterious Skull Rock. A tiny dragonfly rests upon a sunny rock near the water.
The tealight can be turned on and off easily from underneath the piece. You will also receive an extra tealight, but I would recommend trying to find one on a timer so you don't have to mess with it. While it is not heavy, the piece is still fragile.
|
The two stools at the crystal ball table await an inquisitive fairy.
Tiny fairy treasures are tucked all around this fairy's comfortable haven, including her seashell and mohair cuddle chair.

Blackenthorn Knoll (West)
Below the Glass House is the Hole in the Knoll house. Colorful flags fly near the entrance as well as a welcoming rug and crooked broom. It is not easy to see inside the knoll, but a flashlight helps (try through the back window too.) I did take a picture of the contents before They disappeared into the knoll forever.

SOLD
You'll really need to spend some time looking at this one. There are so many surprises to discover! This piece contains three residences as well as a sunroom for Pearl, the unicorn. In the upper Glass House you'll find a comfy seed pod bed, a matching ottoman and purple fairy slippers on the little rug nearby. A crystal ball awaits on the small wood slice table. There are other trinkets, a book, a hand dipped candle and more! Above it all hangs a miniature chandelier.
The third residence is the Hobbit House. You'll have to use your imagination for the inside of this one, but that shouldn't be too hard.

#7 Ribbonwood Road (Commissioned Piece)
#7 Ribbonwood was a commission for a very special mom who loves books, was involved with the space program, a science teacher, loves nature and all animals and has four autistic children. (Sounds like a woman I would love to meet!) I hollowed out a real book and set the house and garden inside. The front cover of the book serves as a backdrop. I made a small latch attached to the tree so the cover can be laid down to view the back of the house.

The inviting garden area features a flower covered trellis, a fenced in covered arbor with a bench and side table. A quiet secluded spot for a fairy to enjoy a cool drink and relax.
|
Mossrose Manor This one-of-a-kind hand-crafted fairy house is a whimsical example of where a fairy might take up residence. An abandoned, moss- covered miniature basilica must have looked inviting since someone else has taken up residence in the grassy, hillock next door. It may even have gone unnoticed if not for the blackened chimney poking up through the turf. They must surely be friends since there is a crushed eggshell path leading from one door to the next. Perhaps they spend time together on the tiny bench 'neath the vine-covered arbor. Could it be the signature brown mouse that shares a seat by the campfire with our resident fairy? Only careful and diligent observation will lead to answers regarding the fairy(ies) of Mossrose Manor!
Private entrance to a second dwelling with a firepit on top! While it is generally common knowledge that fairies are not fond of bells, the tinkling of the bells on this tiny castle are too sweet to resist!

#9 Jubilee Road (Mini House)
This one-of-a-kind hand-crafted fairy house was created within a tiny gourd that I grew and harvested myself. Inside this fairy's miniature abode you will find a cozy bed tucked into a hazelnut shell. Upon her table is a glass of honeyed milk, a dish of sweets and flowers in a vase. Her own original artwork hangs on the wall. My signature brown mouse peeks from the shadows in hopes of seeing our fairy enjoying her tire swing. |
SOLD
This delicate, small gourd with it's heart-shaped entrance is only about 5 inches high, and sits on a slice wood.
|
********************************************************************
*Please keep in mind, that the contents are mostly natural, and it will still behave as a terrarium. Therefore, I would avoid placing it near a sunny window or allow it to accumulate condensation. This can be easily remedied by removing the top. If, however, a little mold should appear, just gently rub it off with a cotton swab dipped in bleach.

SOLD
Moonsnail BayThis one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted fairy house was created within a glass, mushroom terrarium. The miniature gourd was grown and harvested by me. Try using a flashlight to peek inside, where you'll find an impossibly small stool and table laden with a dish of something sweet. This tiny abode is nestled somewhere near the sea, as evidenced by the miniscule Jamaican shells and coral strewn about. My signature brown mouse is hoping for an invitation to climb the tiny ladder and join our fairy for lunch!

#3 Butterbur Lane (Commission Piece) My 28th fairy house is a commission piece for a hanging gourd. I have also incorporated a pretty piece of "found" wood. This gourd can also sit freely without the hanger.

A Fairy Garden For the Horticulturally Challenged! SOLD
This was a commission piece, a gift using the recipient's own favorite cup/planter. Since it is more of a garden, I didn't give it a name or a number, but I probably should have. Especially since there's a little hobbit door underneath!
|
Do you see my little signature mouse peeking out from beneath the bee skep? The bees are made from the heads of straight pins! Some other features are the trellis, sleeping polymer clay kitty and mini gourd bird house.
|

The inside of this little homegrown gourd features a seashell bed, wood slice table with two chairs as well as a basket of polymer clay apples...for the teacher! The university flag and mascot wave proudly above this little fairy's door.

#10 Tanninmyst West This piece was created for a Facebook auction for Ruby Red Slippers Artist Collective. The theme was "Oak Fairy," hence the name, (tannin being a German word referring to oaks as in "Oh, Tannenbaum." This one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted fairy house is the perfect abode for any discerning oak fairy. Nestled within the gourd... is a cozy acorn bed and a magical, golden orb. The patio table is set with a dish of mallow fruit and a cup of honeyed milk . Upon careful inspection, one will find no less than thirty-six acorns of varied types and sizes (the smallest are but three millimeters!) An acorn birdhouse overlooks the courtyard, as my signature, polymer clay mouse seeks a treat while steering clear of the tiny, smoldering campfire. The entire piece measures approximately twelve inches by six inches and is very light weight. It is not intended for outdoor use or for small children. The natural items have been dried and treated, but are most likely not suitable for international shipping. My fairy houses are all original, signed and numbered.

#7 Thimbleweed (Commission Piece) Now for something just a little different....a "playable" fairy house! There are 19 pieces that are not glued down so that little hands can enjoy interactive play with this fairy house.
It was definitely a challenge to create pieces that were sturdy enough for handling, but as usual, once I got started it was so much fun.
Nine-year old Madelyn came to visit me today, unaware that her mom had ordered this house just for her. I will never forget the look on her face and the tears when she found out it was hers! For me, this is what it's all about.

Hopefully the colorful wind chimes hanging in the tree will keep hungry forest friends away from the vegetables until it's time for them to be invited to a meal! If you look closely you'll find a bunny, a mouse, and a bird hanging around.
After a busy day, this little fairy enjoys swinging in the gentle breeze.

8 Meadowrue (Mini House)
My twentieth fairy house is the home of a tiny gardener. Her house is one of my own dried gourds. The covered patio has a little table topped with a cool drink and snacks. I made her tiny wheelbarrow from a hickory nut shell. Polymer clay carrots and radishes are growing in the ridges of the driftwood base.

17 Harmony Hill (Commission Piece) This house was ordered by a mom for her daughter's 17th birthday. (Coincidentally, it happened to be my 17th house!) I met with mom ahead of time so she could give me a few favorite trinkets she had scavenged from Emma's room. I carved out the door and windows with my Dremel Mototool. If you open the wine cork mailbox, you'll find a picture postcard and two letters complete with addresses and wax seals.

This house is chock full of handmade miniatures! It is made from half of a gourd nestled in a tin pie plate and features two-story accommodations. The upper floor houses the walnut-shell bed. The lower level has shelves stocked with fairy "supplies." Behind the house you'll find a tiny campfire complete with four camp stools and roasting marshmellows!

22 Clover Hill Clover Hill has many special touches to intrigue fairy lovers. You may notice there is no ordinary door. This is because our fairy's roommate is a pygmy jerboa who burrows underground! Instead of a traditional door you will find a door in a small hill and a corresponding hatch inside the house. You will be able to view the inside of the house through the two skylights. Hanging above the house is a comfy milkweed pod hammock. A twig trellis adorns one wall of the cottage. The stone patio has a lovely fire pit and patio furniture holding two cups of honeyed milk (a fairy favorite.) Speaking of honey...please notice the small bee skep complete with two bees. I made the bees by painting stripes on the heads of yellow pins! |

8000 1/2 Beigjnnvest (A special gift for my daughter.) This magical, medieval-inspired home is most definitely one-of-a-kind as it was crafted with love for my daughter's 25th birthday. It suits her personality with the addition of tiny skulls, other bones and related "dark" items.
The interior has a walnut shell bed, a seashell sink with a tiny soap and hand towel. Bits of broken jewelry (some of hers!) are hanging from the branches and from the hanger beneath the cottage. |
There is a tiny book left open on the bed. A smooth stone table holds fairy-sized dice as well as paper and pencil. A candlestick holds a black candle that I hand-dipped myself. The fire pit features red pepper flakes and a tiny bucket of ashes.
The address is an actual street and building in Bruges, Belgium...my daughter's
one-time fantasy home. |

Cranberry Crossing
SOLD
Home for the holidays...three homes that is! This beautifully textured driftwood is the setting for two houses that you can see as well as a tiny red door to an underground dwelling.
|
The main house has a sculpted polymer clay door and windows. Acorns, pinecones, cinnamon sticks and a twig roof complete the abode. Behind the house is a patio complete with a gumball machine and dice table. The smaller house is adorned with tin stars and candy canes.
Upon close inspection you may find tiny clay mice, a bird nest, mushrooms, miniature jars of joy and peace, and other sparkling treasures. Cranberry Crossing is a delightful adventure into a fairy holiday world. |

#12 Birdsong SOLD
Here is my bird lover's fairy house! It's the perfect "nest & breakfast" for traveling birds. There are six tiny birdhouses, a birdbath and several locations for nuts, berries and seeds. One of the birdhouses, I made from a miniature gourd. This rustic cottage is embellished with tiny stones, beads and moss. The path is real crushed eggshells and the front steps are cinnamon sticks. Several tiny red toadstools and miniature pumpkins are tucked here and there. The wine cork mailbox even has two letters inside. You'll also find several tiny birds, my "signature" little brown mouse, and a fairy-sized clothesline. It's easy to let your imagination take you away when you spend some time gazing at this little fairy's bird sanctuary!

25 Holly Lane This house was so much fun to make and put me in the mood for the holidays! By drilling out a wine cork, I made a mailbox with a door that opens and there are two letters inside! Behind the balcony is a "stained glass" window I made by painting plastic and putting it behind the cutout. I used polymer clay to make birds, a snowman and a little woven basket. I also learned something new...homemade SNOW!

#5 Dewberry This one was tricky for several reasons. I wanted to try putting some things inside the house and that is tough when you can't fit your hand in there. I need one of those "grabby" tools they used to sell when terrariums were popular. I did get a few pieces of furniture inside, but I couldn't get fancy. Another challenging aspect was all the little bumps I had to maneuver around when cutting out the door and windows with the moto tool. I tried to make a door that would open and close, but between the bumps and the curvature of the gourd...no way Jose. Actually, this one is better without a door since the additional light is helpful for seeing inside. Some of the bumps were rotted through so I tucked beads in those and when the light comes through, they look really cool, kind of like mini stained glass!

#28 Curcubita Court
SOLD
This house was created inside a basket using a decorative gourd that I dried from last fall. It is very lightweight and easy to move which makes it less fragile. This one is much prettier than in the photo. There is a fine glitter on the house and honeycomb as well as
some little charms and surprises hidden among the flowers.
"Curcubita" is the genus name for gourds, including pumpkins!
I've been trying my hand at making clay miniatures. I made the mushrooms and the little mouse nibbling on grain down in the lower left.
I am getting better with the Dremel mototool and was able to cut out the back window.
The piece of honeycomb was a lucky find in my garden one day. I just knew I had to use it! (It is surprisingly sturdy.)

UPDATE! My buddy and "country living" expert, Jean, took one look at this and said: "Hey, that's no honeycomb, that's a wasp nest!" I asked her if anyone would believe it was a honeycomb and she said, "Sure! If they're from Chicago!" Oh well, a wasp nest isn't nearly as fanciful as a honeycomb, but I only had to tweak my story a little bit.

#2 Bogbean I'm loving the name! I was researching pink flowers of Great Britain when I found it. It is actually a medicinal herb once used to treat scurvy. It is also known as Buckbean and grows in bogs, marshes and shallow water. Mixed with wormwood, centaury or sage then brewed as tea it's supposed to cure dyspepsia and a torpid liver. God save me from a torpid liver since I don't know anything about wormwood or centaury either!
I molded the front door, back shutters, mushrooms, mouse, and bucket out of polymer clay. Notice the nifty fairy-sized geode I found when the lake water was very low. |
SOLD
The base is a metal dish with a cool handle I picked up at a resale shop. I think it was a candle dish. I had a very hard time taking a good picture. I think maybe because it's "sunken."

# 4 Sweet Gum
SOLD
This is the first of my gourd houses. Last fall I dried my decorative gourds for some future purpose. They are hanging on a string in my laundry room clothesline style. The funny thing about this gourd is that I chose not to dry it and just tossed it in the back of the yard with the rotting pumpkins. A few weeks ago my husband found it laying out there, all dried and ready to go!

14 Hyacinth Hill
SOLD
I can see now that my fairy houses are going to grow and evolve as I continue to create. It's addicting! This one has even more detail and personality. I have added a few purchased items in addition to the table and stools, pier, hanging basket, broom, lantern and gazing balls which I made myself. I am anxious for a dry day so I can go back out into the woods to forage for more materials!

23 Bulbinella Lane
This is the first of my fairy houses. It is made primarily from found materials. I made the lantern, ladder, bench and umbrella myself. The house is glued to a thin plywood base. The stones,
bark, driftwood, acorns and pinecones were all collected near my home.
